Spatial-literacy.org is the University College London gateway to the Spatial Literacy in Teaching (Splint) Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), which is a joint initiative of the University of Leicester, University College London and the University of Nottingham. This website provides resources and information on a variety of teaching, research and outreach activities, and to act as a portal to guide best practice across a range of public sector geographic information system (GIS) activities. Advances in Spatial Analysis & e-Social Science

We in CASA at UCL are running a one day conference on 13th April which will feature the work of our group on projects associated with our research funded by various UK research councils. The conference is free but you have to register. It is also the day before the UK’s annual conference on GIS called GISRUK which is on the 14-16April. This conference is chargeable and details can be got from the CASA conference site.

Regional Science Prize

SPLINT were well represented at this year’s Regional Science Association (British and Irish Branch) Annual Conference in Limerick, Ireland. James Cheshire won the prize for best presentation from a
young researcher. He presented on “Surnames as Indicators of Cultural Regions”, the high profile judging panel were extremely impressed by the quality of submissions. Speaking to a packed room, Alex Singleton presented on “Moving Towards Real-Time Geodemographic Segmentation” and Daniel Lewis presented results from the first year of his PhD research on “Spatio-Temporal Dynamics of General Practice Catchment Areas: A Case Study of Southwark, London”.
